how can I keep videos and animations from initiating when I bring up a web page on their own
Ive tried to stop animations and videos from playing automatically on web pages through IE with no success. is their a way to do this with Firefox. I ask because I'm on a capped wifi service at my residence. Every time a add with animation or video, or a preview vid pops up for an article it cost more data usage against my cap limit. If i cant turn off the animations or videos cant I bill the web page provider for the amount of extra unwanted usage that I have to pay for. If i reach my cap limit I'm throttled down to what amounts to dial-up speed or pay 2 bucks per gig for extra data. As I am on a fixed income, disabled, and do all of my personal and financial matters online, this is something that is not affordable for me. I could retain quite a bit of my monthly usage if I could control these vids, adds, and animations. Ive tried to get hold of yahoo about this matter without any success. any info is appreciated. Thanks DJ

Most (but not all) video ads use flash player, and firefox has a feature to stop flash player from running automatically.
First, you appear to have multiple versions of flash player. Please uninstall flash player using these instructions, and then download the new version from http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/.
Next, open firefox and enter "about:addons" in the address bar. Choose the "plugins" tab. Find the entry for flash player, and choose "ask to activate" from the dropdown menu on the right.
An extension like uBlock will also cut down on the amount of bandwidth you use by blocking things like tracking scripts that don't benefit you.
