You can use your account recovery key to sign in to your Mozilla account to regain access to your data in case you forget your password.

Why does resetting my password reset my data?
Mozilla accounts uses your password to encrypt your data (such as bookmarks and passwords) for extra security. When you forget your password and have to reset it, this data could be erased. To prevent this from happening, generate your unique account recovery key before forgetting or resetting your password.
Generate and store your account recovery key
- Click the menu button to open the menu panel.
- Click your Mozilla account (your email address) or sign in if you're not already.
- Once signed in, click

- Under Security, next to Account recovery key, click .
- Enter your password and then click .
- Select one or more methods to store your account recovery key (Download, Copy, Print) and then click
- Store your account recovery key in a safe location where you won't lose it.
Change your account recovery key
If your account recovery key was exposed, or you just don't remember where you stored it, you can create a new one at any time. The previous one will lose effect.
- Follow the first three steps on the previous section to go to the Mozilla Account Settings page.
- Under Security, next to Account recovery key, click .
- On the confirmation prompt click again.
- Follow the remaining steps on the previous section to create a new account recovery key.
Reset your password with your account recovery key
If you forgot your password and need to reset it, follow these steps.
- Click Forgot your password?.
- Write your email address and click .
- Retrieve the 8 digit code from your email.
- Enter your confirmation code and click .
- Enter your Recovery Key and click .
- Create a new password.
- Download your new recovery key.
