Error message suggesting .jpg files are executable
I have been extracting some .jpg files from .htm files stored on my computer by opening the .htm files using Firefox. Now, if I go into downloads from the library icon, and try to open any of the .jpg files, I get the message: "filename.jpg" is an executable file. Executable files may contain viruses or other malicious code that could harm your computer. Use caution when opening this file. Are you sure you want to launch "filename.jpg"? I can open the files from the destination directory with my normal file viewer.

You can look at this extension and add on your firefox then you can work .
Open in Browser: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/open-in-browser/
thank you!
Hmm, if you were on Windows, I would suggest to make sure there isn't a hidden .com or .exe extension on the file name. (https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tuto.../how-to-show-file-extensions-in-windows/) However, I don't know whether file browsers on Linux would ever hide such things from you.
Normally a locally saved .htm file doesn't actually contain any images -- they are pulled in from a local folder or remote server using a URL. Does your file contain data URIs -- images that were encoded as enormously long source URLs? And then you use right-click > Save Image as... or what method are you using that causes them to end up on the Downloads list?
Thanks for the responses, I can't see what the problems is, the .jpg files seem to load OK, and I don't see any executables running, so I think it must be one of those weird things that will never be resolved. I've deleted the .htm files, and saved the .jpg files from my image viewer.
