I teach an online course using teaching software called Blackboard 8. This is a common teaching software used by many colleges.

For the past 3 yrs, I used Firefox to teach this course. Now I suddenly cannot access my courses on Firefox.

At first I could not access the grade book, but now I cannot access anything in the course.

I get this message:"Unable to locate the page you requested. If you continue to experience problems, please contact the Service Administrator at admin@example.org."

But when I send a message there, it is not deliverable.

EVERYTHING else works fine in Firefox, accept for opening my class! This is a constant problem which began a few days ago.

Clear the cache and the cookies from sites that cause problems.

"Clear the Cache":

  • Firefox > Preferences > Advanced > Network > Offline Storage (Cache): "Clear Now"

"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:

  • Firefox > Preferences > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

Cor-el,

1) Thanks for the info., but I'm not sure what to do after I arrive at "Show Cookies." Will it ask me if I want to delete them? I need to be sure before I do this, as my course is involved.

2) After emailing you about the first problem, now I find that sometimes when I try to log on to my course I get this message: "Error: Session Already Running." This happens when I first turn on the computer, and there is NO session that is already running.

I'll wait to hear your responses before I do anything, as maybe your instructions will change.

Thanks for your response!

Do you see any cookies related to that website if you type the first few letters of that domain in the search bar?

  • Firefox > Preferences > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

It is also possible that the file cookies.sqlite that stores the cookies is corrupted.

Rename (or delete) cookies.sqlite (cookies.sqlite.old) and delete cookies.sqlite-journal and cookies.txt, if they exist, in the Firefox Profile Folder in case the file cookies.sqlite got corrupted.

When I go to "Cookies: Show Cookies," there are nothing listed, so I cannot delete anything. I don't show any cookies at all.

I did not clear the cache that you mentioned in an earlier email. Should I still try that, or does it mean something else when there are no cookies?

By the way, I was able to log into my course and open the grade book one time today, but aside from that, it does not work.

How is it possible to work once in a while and not at other times?

Thanks, Cor-el!

Have you done a scan for viruses and trojans? That sort of thing can be caused by malware.

If you see nothing in the Cookie Manager window then you may have a problem with an extension or with the file cookies.sqlite that stores the cookies.

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
