does firefox history show pages that you have not initated, such as from a pop up?
b.friend's firefox history has pages that he says he has not visited, i.e. dating sites, "x" rated sites. he says they pop up when he IS visiting porn sites, and that he has not opened them. yet they are in the history. can this occur?

History is history, if a page opens in a pop-up it should appear in history regardless whether it was opened on purpose by the user or if was unexpected, even if it was closed before the page was completely loaded.

when typing in the address bar, it will auto-fill a site that b.friend says he has not been to, but has likely popped up unsolicited.

Yes, that does sound plausible. But I really won't buy that type of excuse, he shouldn't be visiting porn sites on someone else's PC to begin with.
