Firefox crashes on startup. Will not start on safe mode either.

Chosen solution

Glad it is working again that is the important thing.

It is probably worth ensuring that your Norton AV is kept up-to date and re-scanning just incase the problem is malware related. Otherwise all I can say is good luck, lets hope the re-install solved the problem.

Thanks for posting back with an update.

P.S.
Debugging is something some techie types do when trying to solve problems, and firebug is a rather useful and popular tool for looking at the detail of some of the things firefox does. The bugs with a number I mentioned are reports and studies used whilst trying to track down and resolve some of the problems with firefox.

Hi Enreiser,

Have you got any other very recent CrashIDs if so please paste a couple in your next message.

The above sort of crash has been associated with a regression Firefox 9 causing crashes when Firebug is in use.

  • Are you using firebug, or any other debugger on your computer ?

However if that is what happens on your machine then as Firebug is an extension and not a plugin I would have expected firefox to be ok in safe mode.

I do not have suggestions for a solution at present, but it would be of interest to see other crash IDs to see if they give further clues.

You could try installing Firefox 3.6 to see if that works ok. It is not as extreme as it may sound, because as long as you do NOT take options to remove settings, Firefox installs 3.6 over the current version, and leaves your profile with all your settings and bookmarks intact. (It may still be good practice to manually backup your bookmarks)

Of the suggestions in the article firefox crashes, what have you done so far? have you done scans for malware and viruses using multiple tools ?

Also, I have no idea about bugs, debugging, etc. I don't think I'm using any of that. I did run a full system scan with Northon Antivirus but it didn't solve or find anything.
