How do I revert the zoom / pixel density changes in 22.0?

more options

Version 22.0 takes Windows default font size into consideration and that messed everything up for me. I know I can reset it by changing layout.css.devPixelsPerPx to 1 in about:config but that also affects the UI. I want the old functionality back, where Firefox's UI considered Windows font size settings but actual websites didn't.

I really don't understand how anyone thought it was a good idea to tie the UI scaling and website scaling together and I really need to get rid of this because it's making Firefox unusable for me. A browser, by default, should obviously never, ever, decide how a website is displayed. That should be left up to those who created the website, and If the user then wants to change how it looks, that should be their choice. And there are hundreds of addons for this purpose. Mozilla should have no influence whatsoever.

TL;DR: How do I go back to the old behaviour where the UI respected Windows font size but where Firefox left my websites alone?

You can set the layout.css.devPixelsPerPx pref on the about:config page to 1.0 (current default value is -1.0) to restore the behavior of previous Firefox versions.

If web pages needs to be adjusted after changing this pref then you can look at the Default FullZoom Level or NoSquint extension.

Use this extension to adjust the font size for the user interface:

What I'm saying is that I shouldn't be required to use extensions to view pages at 100% size, like they were meant to be viewed. This is a ridiculous change and Mozilla should really put a variable in about:config that will revert to the old behaviour. If your application needs extensions to function normally, as expected, you've done something wrong.

My Windows font size is 125%, that doesn't mean that I want my web pages zoomed to 125%. That means that the GUI of my Windows applications should adapt to this font size.

Also, using Nosquint or other zooming addons makes many pages stutter when you scroll, so to make Firefox behave like a normal browser (i.e. using an addon to zoom back out to 80%), I will have a slower browser. I'm very disappointed but mostly confused about the devs thinking on this one.

All other applications do what they're supposed to with Windows font settings, so I'm not going to set it to 100% and mess them up because Firefox is weird.

Hi Skumberg, it probably would have been easier to users to have two different settings, one for the chrome area and one for the content area. But we don't have that.

You can manually zoom out sites without using an extension (Ctrl- twice usually will do it). Firefox remember this on a site-by-site basis automatically. The benefit of the add-on is setting a new default zoom level saves on Ctrl- presses. But if you tend to visit mostly the same sites, the manual method should be sufficient.
