I want to delete items that appear in the url box dropdown. I thought I could do this through TOOLS / CLEAR RECENT HISTORY, but that doesn't work. Help?

Certain sites visited frequently appear in the drop-down list below the URL box. Maybe I'm referring to it incorrectly. The box/field where you would type the URL (http://www.help.com). When I go to the drop-down arrow at the end of the box to select something from the drop-down box that I use frequently, there's all this other JUNK in there and, due to usage habits, it's forever appearing in different sequence from one click to the next, so that I have to search for the ones I want. Going to TOOLS seemed to be the answer ("Clear Recent History"), but this doesn't work. I don't know what history is being cleared when I use that function, but it's not this one. Please help.

Type "about:config" in address bar. Click " I'll be careful, I promise".Type "Browser.urlbar.maxRichResults" in Filter. Double click the entry and set to 0.

So, I can't delete individual sites from the list, but have to configure it so there's never anything in it?

Entries in the location bar drop down list with a yellow (blue on Mac) star at the right end are bookmarks.
You can remove such a bookmarked item that shows in the list if you open that url in a tab and click the yellow star in the location bar.
This will open the "Edit This Bookmark" dialog and you can click the Remove button to remove the bookmark if you want to remove such a bookmarked entry.
