Thunderbird 91.2.0 (64-bit) After the last update, when I double click on an event to edit, instead I get a pop-up window with event details and have to click edit (bottom right corner of window) to open in a tab for edit. Tried right clicking the event and "Edit" is greyed out. The only 'setting' that I can find in Preferences under Calendar is "Edit events and tasks in a tab instead of a dialog windows." which is enabled. I created an event in Personal Calendar to test. Attached is a Personal Calendar event window that I get when double clicked - the same that happens with Google Calendar events. AHA! Personal Calendar event does have 'Edit' when right clicked (not greyed out like Google Calendar events) and opens in tab for edit when used, but not with double click..., again, extra step to edit. Don't appreciate the extra clicks - any help is appreciated. Kurt

Make sure your Google Calendar isn't read-only.

Hi Christ1, I can edit the event only after clicking Edit in the bottom corner of the pop-up window (as shown in previous attachment). None of the events allow me to edit by just double clicking, as I was able to do before the Thunderbird update a few days ago. Even Personal Calendar events now 'open' in a pop-up window as the attachment shows... rather than opening in a new tab for editing. The only difference that I am aware of is that I updated Thunderbird. Kurt

It appears this is the way it is as of TB91. I don't think it can be changed.

Alternatively, use the right-click - Edit method, which works fine here for events of a Google Calendar.

Hi Christ1, Unfortunately, right clicking works with Personal Calendar events, but when right clicking Google events, the 'Edit' is greyed out and I have to 'open' in the pop-up window, then click 'Edit' to open for edit in a new tab. Appears that I will have to get used to the extra clicks to edit Google events... or just go back to Google/Chrome/Gmail and Calendar since I have 4 Google Calendars and seldom use the Thunderbird Personal Calendar anyway. Too bad someone decided to fix something that wasn't broken... just like Microsoft does (and why Hotmail isn't my primary email anymore). Thanks for your help... I'll see if anyone else might have a suggestion... Kurt

All, Just looked at the Release Notes (https://www.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/91.0/releasenotes/) and, as Christ1 stated, it appears that opening an event has been "changed" in version 91.x.x:

Calendar: Opening an existing event now opens summary dialog

Personally, poor choice to change, since it doesn't really give any extra 'functionality' for the average user... might be good for developers, but the pop-up summary window and extra clicks needed to edit an event aren't worth it.

Hopefully, someone will change it back in the near future. Closing without resolution. Kurt

How do you access the Google Calendar, directly via CalDAV, or some sort of add-on?

The most simple method is via CalDAV. As said before, right-click - Edit works here.

To add a calendar: File (Alt-F) - New - Calendar - On the Network Enter your Gmail email address, and enter your password when prompted.

Hi Christ1, I have extensions "Open Google Calendar" and "Provider for Google Calendar" installed. After the last update I also had to re-enable Google access... I haven't looked at CalDAV.

But if double click doesn't work (open for edit in a new tab), I can still edit the event by double clicking and then clicking 'Edit' in the pop-up window... I really just don't appreciate the extra steps to get where I used to get with double click on the event... Kurt
