I have noticed of a late a problem that I know did not exist before that Firefox does not seem save connection settings or they are reset after a short time.
I use a portable version of Firefox OR a normally installed version, but if one goes to a network using different proxies, where IN THE PAST setting it to "auto-detect proxy settings for this network" or "Use system proxy settings", these changes may be saved, but after a short time, there is no connection. If one goes to the settings again, there is no sign anything was saved at all & none of the options is selected!
This is the case in different unconnected university networks. One has to keep going back to settings after every few minutes which is very frustrating. This is certainly the case with 29.01 & recent versions, though I cannot say how far back it goes.
Any corrections to this would be appreciated.
Regards

May be your preferences not saved, Download it newly and give a try.
Well, i as said the network settings preferences to "auto-detect proxy settings for this network" or "Use system proxy settings" do NOT seem to get saved for long if I use my laptop in at least 3 or so SEPARATE university networks, requiring a proxy settings change.
Though I completely uninstalled the recently updated to version 30.0 Firefox on my laptop today, deleted all associated data & re-installed - that the issue DID NOT go away IF I came to any of these networks, but I keep getting a break in the connection, being forced to select "auto-detect proxy settings for this network" 10 times in the last hour.
That does NOT happen with Google chrome & I am sure in older versions of Firefox, I never needed to worry about being repeatedly disconnected.
I have not tested the new version of portable Firefox (30.0) from portablepps.com where I first noticed the problem with version 29.x, but I do not expect it to behave better than one from mozilla.com itself.
To be clear, on networks not requiring using specific proxies, there is NO PROBLEM.
My laptop uses Windows 8.1 & has 100% Windows updates.
I just expect after going to a network, that works if u select "auto-detect proxy settings for this network" not only to work for a few minutes, but have these settings saved AT LEAST for that session like in the past & currently Google Chrome & Internet Explorer!
There is definitely a problem here, which a fresh installation of Firefox 30.0 did not solve.
By the time I tried to send this message, the proxy setting was reset (with NONE of the 4 settings selected!) & I had to get it back to auto-detect settings before being able to send this message!
May be no one keeps using networks with custom proxy networks like the 2 universities I shuttle between & that is why even the developers have not noticed this.
I am quite sure this problem did NOT exist in earlier versions of Firefox & once I logged in into the network for a session there was no issue at all. Even today in the course of writing this post, Firefox got disconnected twice!
I am forced to use Google chrome which never has this issue!!! You log in once into the network & that is it for the session.
Why does Firefox 30.0 & recent versions, at least 29.0 not save the proxy settings (Auto-detect proxy settings for this network ?????????) even for an hour?
Back to Chrome for uninterrupted work.
Very disappointing!
