I was advised to clear recent history..... Everything tab in Firefox as I couldn't sign into EBay. Since doing this Firefox doesn't connect to the Internet and causes other programs to crash!!

I tried to uninstall Firefox but as soon as I click on it.... Internet explorer crashes and PC shuts down!! This takes out with it norton antivirus and my wireless modem! I have to remove USB to find connection again!! It tries to run norton (Symantec) but get error page! Cannot uninstall that either!

Cannot access Internet..... Page not found error message! Also states that page cannot be accessed as working offline....please connect (as if using dial up).

Anyone know how to fix this problem .... please! Bev

I guess you are posting from a Mobile because your desktop does not work.

  • Is your desktop Windows ?
I note you mention Internet Explorer.

Clearing Firefox History should not have the effects you describe.

I am wondering if it is a Malware problem.

First of all ignore Firefox see if you can start Windows in its own safemode (F8 at boot - unless Win8 think that may be shift F8). Try without then try with networking options. If that works try Internet Explorer.

Post back with how you get on. Are you

  • At least able to start the computer ?
  • Able to use IE ?

Hi John99, Thanks for taking the time to post.....appreciate it! Yes....using iPad!

I cannot access the Internet via Mozilla or windows Internet explorer!! Wireless Internet is running but says page cannot be found!!

Link to Internet has somehow been disabled!! If I try and uninstall programs Internet explorer stops then shuts down!! This also takes out Symantec and my wireless connection! I cannot uninstall norton antivirus either!!

Really weird.....cannot restore windows either via system!! So need to get my PCM working! Bev

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from an existing profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over the problem.

Do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before (re)installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.

Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.

Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible, to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.

  • Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because all profile folders will be removed and you lose personal data like bookmarks and passwords from profiles of other Firefox versions.

Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.

  • (32 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
  • (64 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\"

Your bookmarks and other personal data are stored in the Firefox profile folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure that "remove personal data" is NOT selected when you uninstall Firefox.
