Can I change the drive and directory that 3.6 uses for default Profiles?

My C:\ drive is getting overloaded. Can I move my Firefox 3.6 default Profile to another drive and directory? If yes, I assume the Managing Profiles and Backing Up Your Info articles apply.

You can use the profile manager to create a new profile on the other drive (Choose Location).
Be sure to specify a new and empty folder for the profile.

Thanks. I need to replace my C: drive which was getting overloaded and also starting to grind. With your help I now have a backup profile as well as having moved the default to a larger drive along with all the other data that should have never been on the C: drive

I really appreciate your help. Wife and I are in our seventies and not all that computer literate and paranoid about messing something up as well.

You're welcome

You can also consider to move the temp folder to that drive.

You can change the %TEMP% and %TMP% environment variables and make them point to a temp folder (X:\temp\) on that drive

  • Control Panel > System > Advanced > Environment variables

Thanks for the suggestion.

Here are my assumptions:

After getting to the Environmental Variables screen:

1. HiLite the TEMP Folder and click on Edit.

2. HiLite Variable Value and change path from:

   %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Temp TO
   G:\My Docs\My Computer\Local Settings

Or do I need to use some variation of the %..% convention?

Do I then “Move” the current files or just reboot?

Thanks for your patience.

Add at least \Temp to the path of the temp folder.
You can use G:\Temp for the temp folder.

Did you change both environment variables (TEMP and TMP) to be sure that you catch them both?
