Firefox keeps asking me to restart to update to 49.0.2, but I have already updated
I'm using a Mac (OSX 10.9.5 Mavericks), and just updated to the latest version of Firefox: 49.0.2. However, every time I start Firefox, I get a prompt telling me to restart to update to the latest version (which happens to be 49.0.2). Even after clicking the "Restart" button in the prompt, it just restarts then immediately tells me to restart again.
The odd thing is, I have another user account on this machine where that is not happening. That account is using 49.0.2 and does not receive the update prompt.

I tried walking through this, but when I control+click on the various preferences, the "Reset" option is grayed out on all of them. If it's helpful, these are the preferences that showed up in the results:
devtools.inspector.showUserAgentStyles dom.push.userAgentID general.useragent.compatMode.firefox general.useragent.locale general.useragent.site_specific_overrides
I also always use Firefox in private mode (never store history)... not sure if that would affect anything.

Note: Some software, like Advanced SystemCare with Surfing Protection, can protect files in the Firefox profile folder against changes. If you have such software then check the settings or uninstall this software.
None of that seemed to have any effect. I even re-installed Firefox, to no avail. I'm not sure this is a preferences issue though, considering I do not have any problems saving or updating any of my preferences.
Where does Firefox store the updates that it automatically downloads? Maybe there is file or setting there that didn't get cleared out.
Also wanted to mention that the issue occurs even in safe mode, and I do not have any sort of software installed like Advanced SystemCare.

I've called for more help.
The problem is with one profile but not another. So the program files should be okay. It's just that one profile.
Use these links to create a new profile. Use this new profile as is. Is the problem still there?

Type about:profiles<enter> in the address bar.
If there is no problem with the new profile, we will move the old to the new.
I tried creating a new profile using those steps, but the problem persisted even with the new profile.
This is my last shot, Let’s do a full clean re-install; Download Firefox For All languages And Systems {web link} Save the file. Then Close Firefox.
Using your file browser, open the Programs Folder on your computer.
Windows: C:\Program Files
C:\Program Files (x86)
Mac: Open the "Applications" folder.

If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager,
you should use the same way to uninstall it - see Install Firefox on Linux.
If you downloaded and installed the binary package
from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder
Firefox in your home directory.
Do Not remove the profiles folder.
Look for, and rename any Mozilla or Firefox program folders by adding .old to them. Do not rename the Mozilla Thunderbird folder if there is one.
After rebooting the computer, run a registry scanner if you have one. Then run the installer. If all goes well, remove the OLD folders when you are done.
If there is a problem, start your Computer in safe mode and try again.
