I use Thunderbird 91.1.0 (64-bit) on Manjaro.

I want to connect to a GMail account on Thunderbird which has 2FA enabled. To do so, I created an application password on Google, and then configured everything correctly in Account Setup. When I click on "Done" after having entered my Full Name, my Email address and the Password (which is the application password freshly generated), a pop-up asking me to connect to Google appears.

However, I can't go further than the "email address or phone number" field. When I write the correct email address and press "Next", it goes back to the same field without any error message.

The picture shows in which pop-up I get stuck in. Sorry, it's in french.

Edit: I would like to add more details:

  • I had the same issue with Thunderbird on a updated Ubuntu machine recently (sorry, I do not know the version).
  • I tried to replace the "Password" by my account's password (instead of the generated application password) but it didn't work either.

I fixed it ! By using the default configuration, Thunderbird choosed to use OAuth2. I changed it to Normal Password (after clicking on configure manually) and it worked like a charm.
