I think the first step is to try running Firefox in Safe Mode. This will hopefully narrow the problem down to something in your default Firefox profile, such as a misbehaving extension.

Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode

If everything works nicely in Safe Mode, then you could try refreshing Firefox (extensions and themes will be removed and your preferences will be reset if you do this), or start working through your extensions to see which of them could be causing the problems.
