Hi,

I have a Windows 10 laptop with an old version of firefox 56.0.2.6506 that I have to keep and be able to occasionally use.

I'd like to also install a current version of firefox with a new profile, and be able to use both versions without messing up the old one.

I'm NOT very savvy on profiles and so on. Could someone please walk me through how to do this without messing up the old version and it's original profile? It's really important that I'm able to keep that old version exactly as it is. (by the way, is there any way to get it to STOP asking me to update every time I open it?)

Thanks in advance for your help!!

Note that Firefox doesn't allow to downgrade a profile, but will happily update a profile to a newer version what makes it incompatible with an older version. So you need to make sure that you never use the Firefox 56 profile with the current release and to be sure keep a backup copy of the Firefox 56 profile.

Use a desktop shortcut that specifies the profile (-P "<profile">) to start each version with its own profile. You need extra caution if you would associate Firefox with some file extensions (default browser) as that will use the profile marked a Default=1 in profiles.ini.
