Subject line says it all. I can no longer highlight something, say, in Facebook or from a website, "copy" it and "paste" it into a message. Is it better to try restoring Firefox to an earlier version, or to abandon Firefox and use a totally different browser ? It all worked fine prior to the update today.

Thanks for the help !

Start Firefox in Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration or userChrome.css is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Themes
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Troubleshoot Mode start window

The Edit controls are no longer found in the "3-bar" Firefox menu button drop-down list, but are only available as toolbar buttons.

You can drag the edit controls from the Customize palette to the Navigation Toolbar or to the overflow area under the chevron (>>).

In some cases, it's also handy to use the keyboard shortcuts (these are for Windows):

  • Ctrl+X to cut
  • Ctrl+C to copy
  • Ctrl+V to paste
  • Ctrl+Shift+V to paste as plain text if the editor has problem with the formatting from a regular paste
