Why does Firefox erase my custom toolbar?

I've had two custom toolbars with the a space added to make the area bigger so I can see more of the personas and that has been working for a while now. Until lately, maybe when version 26.0 came out, the two toolbars get erased when I start Firefox from closing it out or starting it the next time my computer is on. This is not a problem with any file in my profile folder as I deleted mine just to try and fix this issue.

This is likely caused either by a Firefox extension or security software on your computer that restores files on reboot.

Boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps.

I don't think it's either of those, nothing changed. I was using everything then (when it worked) to now, all extensions the same and my security software are also the same programs.

Hello,

Sometimes toolbars are missing because they are hidden, you just need to bring them back up. Visit this article to learn how to bring them back: Customize Firefox controls, buttons and toolbars. You can learn tips and tricks at the same time.

You can check the localstore.rdf file to see if you can find a reference to that toolbar.

You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder:

@Debapriyo Bhattacharya, the hidden toolbars seem to be for "Firefox made" the two in question are custom. Made by selecting View>Toolbars>Customize...>Add New Toolbar. Then type a name and drag an item onto the newly created toolbar.

@cor-el, I don't know much about editing that file, but I did find something pertaining to my custom toolbars, this may or may not be the only line about them. From localstore.rdf

<RDF:Description RDF:about="chrome://browser/content/browser.xul#customToolbars"

                  toolbar1="Name:spacer"
                  toolbar2="Here:spacer" />

That should give you two toolbars (Name and Here) with each of them having one spacer item on them.

Are these lines still present in the localstore.rdf when you (re)start Firefox?

<RDF:Description RDF:about="chrome://browser/content/browser.xul#customToolbars"
                 toolbar1="Name:spacer"
                 toolbar2="Here:spacer" />

Yes, the lines are still there after I closed (and waiting for the firefox.exe to close from Windows Task Manager processes) then restart firefox. I have a feeling the lines would get overwritten if I were to make two new custom toolbars, which I haven't done since starting this. I also tried to add some lines one at a time, which were

collapsed="false" autohide="false"

both didn't work, so I returned to a backup localstore file.

Go to your Firefox profile folder. Find localstore.rdf and copy it someplace outside of FF directories. I store my backups in;
\Documents\_FireFox Settings

I found the problem. The addon "Adblock Plus 2.4.1" is causing the toolbars to dissappear. I don't know why it appeared when Firefox updated, but I am letting the creators of that addon know.
