What normally happens in Firefox 22 or higher (if you use the default setting for layout.css.devPixelsPerPx) is that the toolbar text looks normal, toolbar icons are slightly enlarged (113%), and web pages are also slightly enlarged (113%). Your results suggest that some other customizations may be conflicting with the new design.

Could you try Firefox's Safe Mode? That's a standard diagnostic tool to bypass interference by extensions and some custom settings. More info: Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode.

You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using

Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

In the dialog, click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Reset)

Does it look any closer to normal?

It still does the same thing. I did a complete restore to default and I am still experiencing the same issue on many sites. Not to worry, I'll just use chrome since it works a bit better and makes browsing and managing my site a pleasure rather than a burden.

Why it is only on some sites I don't know but I am not a programmer so doing all the things I have read just to get my browser to behave is way too complicated and time consuming. I want a browser that works out of the box. Being bedridden is enough burden for me than to have to do all this other stuff. Until 23 I could manage the few issues I had and would go back to 21 if my security would allow me to use an old version but it doesn't, so I just won't mess with it anymore. Chrome is the new preferred default anyway with all the new problems.

Sorry to hear about your condition. If you want to post a URL to your site (public areas not requiring a login) a volunteer could take a look and see whether there is anything obvious. Might help other users visiting in the future even if you do not visit in Firefox yourself.

Okay, I played around with everything starting with resetting everything to default FF 23 in about:config. Then I increased my screen resolution to 1920x1080 - not quite the largest. Then I changed my custom dpi to about 138%. Then on the pages I was having trouble viewing, I simply decreased the zoom level (ctrl -) to about 85% and set that as a default for those pages only.

Quite a pain because I had to find the setting that would work for all of my stuff and in the programs I use all the time. After all that... my eyes were getting really bad from having to struggle to see, that I had to resort to my high contrast for vision impaired to complete the configuration of it all. When I struggle (squint) to see it causes inflammation at the optic nerve which severely limits my sight and causes me to be over-sensitive to anything that includes light! TV, monitor, cell phone screen, etc.

I did not want to re-install no-squint as it was a major hassle when I would have many tabs opened and they'd all have different settings and if I cleared my cache, I'd have to start all over with those settings. This way I do not have another add-in to deal with.

So if anyone else is having this issue try the steps I used. Fortunately, I have a 27" screen so increasing the screen resolution had a lot of room to play with as I was only at about 64% before this to make everything large enough for me to see but still be able to watch my HD movies on my large screen!

If anyone wants to ask me how I did all this or where I found the stuff, I will be happy to try and guide you.

Not using FF was breaking my heart! (Not to mention how long it was taking me to do anything in an unfamiliar setting!) Now, I'll close my eyes for about 12 hours and hopefully I can get my stuff set back to when it looked better than all black and cream! The only color I get is with links so I chose two favorite pastel colors to give things at least a little pizzazz!

Note that you should use LCD screen in their native resolution to get the best results.

You need to set the DPI setting in Windows so all elements in the Windows user interface look good for you.

After that you make make the adjustments in Firefox.

You can set the layout.css.devPixelsPerPx pref on the about:config page to 1.0 as a start and if necessary, adjust layout.css.devPixelsPerPx starting with 1.0 in 0.1 or 0.05 steps (1.0 or 0.9) to make the toolbar icons show correctly.
Use an extension to adjust the text size in the user interface and the page zoom in the browser window.

You can look at the Default FullZoom Level or NoScript extension if web pages need to be adjusted after changing layout.css.devPixelsPerPx.

I'm running FF 24.0 with Win XP. I just got a 32" monitor and the fonts in FF messages, etc are way too big. The fonts in the toolbars & pull down menus are fine. I've tried layout.css.devPixelsPerPx without success. But I have found that if I start to versions of FF VERY quickly (mainly by clicking the FF Icon in the Quick Start Toolbar TWICE) that the fonts SECOND version of FF are always correct. I guess I can just start FF twice every time (and it only seems to work if you start both versions really fast). But I thought I'd ask if anyone else has run across this and/or has any suggestions?? Will the theme-font-size-changer help? Thanks

Check that you do not run Firefox in compatibility mode or with a reduced screen resolution.

You can open the Properties of the Firefox desktop shortcut via the right-click context menu and check the "Compatibility" tab.

Hi gcorkins, a "context menu" is the menu that appears when you right-click something. Because a different menu appears for different objects, it's context-sensitive, and hence a context menu.

jscher2000: Thanks for your reply, but when I right click something I get a menu that includes: Back, Forward, Reload, etc. I don't see anything about Properties. Also I wanted to mention that I'm using Win XP, some FF functions seem different in XP. Thanks again but I'm still lost.

I finally found FF properties by right clicking on the FF icon on the Quick Start Toolbar. I am not running in the compatibility mode. How do I determine if I'm running with reduced screen resolution?? My monitor is only 720P so the screen resolution as set in MS Control Panel is 1366X768. Also I wanted to repeat that if I start 2 sessions of FF in rapid succession the SECOND version is always perfect. I really appreciate the replies I've received but I could still use some help, please.
