migrate thunderbird linux to windows 10
got into a terrible mess trying to migrate messages, profile, passwords etc from Linux Mint (18) Thunderbird version 68.10 to a brand new windows 10. i have installed latest thunderbird (78) on windows.
i've tried 2 methods, one involving 2 steps on both machines, the other using 3 steps as i noticed that when i first looked at the method on linux it was for 68.10, and said 2 steps, then when i went to the windows the mozilla support had changed from 2 steps all around to 3 steps, and thats where i started to get confused, and it wasn't helped that a few times i forgot to close thunderbird. i think the mozilla support recognised i was on windows 10 and changed the steps accordingly.
so basic question is from 68.10 linux do i use ; a) 2 steps up on both machines b) 2 steps on linux then 3 on windows c) 3 steps on both, or d) should i uninstall 78.8 on windows and install 68.10 ?

i spent the whole day, trying all the options and had no success, so finally i migrated everything manually: set up each new email account, copying and pasting passwords, dragging and dropping all archived mails into new folders. all my email stuff from old computer was backed up, so i can always go back if i've missed something. had big trouble in exporting and importing address book, first attempts were not showing any names, phone numbers, only email addresses but i finally got something close to reality. thanks for the help, i expect it was my forgetting where i had placed folders, profiles etc originally that caused the problem, and subsequentlt not copying the right folder.

Hello there Mac terry. We have read your message. We try to help you.
okay it is a lot yes, okay. if i understand correctly are you using a server or something like that?
do you use a special computer? since you want to put Thunderbird on any volume, I don't really know if you want this of course. https://www.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/releases/
But okay, it's best to install 78.0 or a higher version. You will not lose any data or mail. You can copy.? https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/moving-thunderbird-data-to-a-new-computer Explain me a bit more please. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/using-multiple-profiles
