Why am I getting a lot of "A" with a "^" sign over it in the quoted text when forwarding a message
On most messages I receive, if I try to forward to someone else.........or sometimes even on a reply to original sender, there will be lots of the letter "A" with the symbol "^" over the A mixed in the forwarded text. It looks like this is happening in the place of a space on most lines of text. On occasion, there are also very strange characters mixed in the forwarded text, but they will all be IN BOLD.

Hi FredMcD I found what you reference but that is in FIREFOX. My problem is showing up in THUNDERBIRD messages on a forward or reply. please see attached.
You had not said this was in Thunderbird. I've called the big guys to help you.
Those look like they could be command characters.
That is a problem with the encoding. Make sure that Unicode is selected and not an 8 bit Western or Windows encoding.
- Firefox > Web Developer > Character Encoding
- View > Character Encoding
Hi cor-el, my problem is with Thunderbird messages, not Firefox. I check Firefox and Unicode is selected.
Then you need to check that in Thunderbird. I will move this question to Thunderbird support.
moved to the Thunderbird questions queue
So sorry, but I don't know where Thunderbird questions queue is located? Somehow I got here through Thunderbird help, but that probably was my error.
I did check Thunderbird >View >Character encoding and it is set to Unicode. Thanks for your help.
