Firefox does not have a similar concept of intranet, internet, restricted, and trusted site security zones. Is there a particular reason you want to push across the list, maybe related to address bar search or security certificates or another concern?

Dear, Thanks for the response. I would like to add an internal site in Firefox under Options->Security->Exceptions(photo attached).I would like to push this site on Firefox across all computers in the domain.

Such exceptions are stored in the permissions.sqlite database file, so you would have to use an SQLite editor to add such an exception.

You can use the SQLite Manager extension in Firefox to inspect SQLite database files to see how this works.

Note that clearing "Site Preferences" in Firefox clears all exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, software installation, passwords, and other website specific data.

Hi maria.j, that permission would allow your users to install an extension for Firefox from your internal server without getting a "give this site permission dialog." But users still would need to visit the installer page. If you want to install an extension into Firefox for all your users, there might be an easier way.

Dear jscher2000,cor-el,

I am not worried about the add-ons, I jus want a internal site (say abc.com) to be trusted by all my users.How to push it to all users in my domain? Like abc.com can be pushed to IE/Chrome through GPO. How do I push it to firefox?

You can look at this extension:

What do you mean by "trusted"-- please be as specific as possible because Microsoft's zone concept covers ActiveX controls (not applicable to Firefox), scripting, cross-domain access, and a wide range of other settings. Which issues are impacting your use of Firefox on the site?

Or does the site use a self-issued SSL certificate that you need to be accepted without an error?

Dear jscher2000, Ok let me rephrase my question. My concern is to just push a site "abc.com" in "Options->Security->Exceptions" in Firefox across all users in my domain. I cannot use GPO to push the site as Microsoft doesnt support Firefox.

Hi maria.j, that's what we were discussing originally: As you can see from the position of the Exceptions button on that panel, adding a site to that exception list allows your users to install Firefox extensions from the site without getting prompted to give the site permission. I don't have any new information about that other than what cor-el suggested.

If you want to add an exception for some other behavior, such as pop-up windows -- see the Exceptions button on the Content panel -- that is stored in the same permissions database so probably would have a similar technique (if it is possible).

If you are trying to accomplish something else, please let us know.

Let me take a step back and ask whether you have run into any problems accessing your internal/trusted site in Firefox. If not, you may be struggling to solve a problem that does not exist. If so, what are the problems? They may be related to settings that aren't exposed in the dialogs but which can be set using a login script.

I did some testing with xpinstall.whitelist.add prefs. This works for me both with a mozilla.cfg file in the Firefox program folder and with a user.js file. You can specify multiple hosts by separating them with a comma (,).

You will have to open the exception window to make Firefox precess the prefs and set them to an empty string.

  • Tools > Options > Security : "Warn me when sites try to install add-ons": Exceptions

user.js or prefs.js file:

user_pref("xpinstall.whitelist.add.abc", "abc.com");
//
defaultPref("xpinstall.whitelist.add.abc", "abc.com");

You can use a mozilla.cfg file in the Firefox program folder to lock prefs or specify new (default) values.

Place a local-settings.js file in the defaults\pref folder where also the channel-prefs.js file is located to specify using mozilla.cfg.

pref("general.config.filename", "mozilla.cfg");
pref("general.config.obscure_value", 0);

These functions can be used in the mozilla.cfg file:

defaultPref();	// set new default value
pref();	// set pref, allow changes in current session
lockPref();	// lock pref, disallow changes

Hi Guys, Yes I have issue accessing my internal site, if I don't include the site "abc.com" in Options->Security->Exception of Firefox, It is prompting for authentication as we are using a proxy in our environment. So inorder to avoid the authentication promt I need to add this site "abc.com" on my Firefox.But I dont want to do it manually for all users. I wanted to push it through GPO or SCCM. I have tried Firefox ADM also, not working though.
