How to make search engine choice to be not applied to navigation bar

more options

To reproduce: - set google as default search engine - select something in search panel (not google) - type some request in navigation bar (just some text) - press enter Earlier in this case google search was performed Now search is performed via the search engine chose in the search panel.

Is there any way to change this behaviour as it was?

This is an intentional change made in Firefox 23 and up. It also applies to the search box in about:home.

You can use the Keyword Search add-on to revert back to the old behaviour. It is available here:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/keyword-search/

Also see this support question for some background on the feature change:

I hope that helps.

Thanks, the addon helped. Though I'm frustrated with this way to solve problems with adware.
