Changing number of rows in newtabpage doesn't work
I am using the "classic" new tabs page in version 57.0.2. I set the number of rows and columns to 4. The change for columns works fine. The number of rows keeps reverting to 3 each time I launch the browser. Any ideas?

This is bug 1406088. The only solution for now is to lock this pref.

Check your zoom controls.
<Control> (Mac=<Command>) + (plus) enlarge - (minus) reduce 0 (zero) restore
This will increase or decrease the number of tabs shown on the page.
The issue isn't with the number of tabs, it with the rows and columns on the new tab page.
I set this - browser.newtabpage.rows;3 to a value of 4 in about:config. I can open a new tab and see 4 columns and 4 rows as it should be.
I exit the browser and re-launch it and when I open a new tab I see 4 columns and 3 rows (the default). I can't find a way to make my change stick.
You say using the classic new tab page. Could you explain that please.

You can toggle this pref on the about:config page to switch between the new design and the classic design.
• browser.newtabpage.activity-stream.enabled You can click the Edit button to be able to show more tiles.
You can check these prefs on the about:config page for the classic version:
•browser.newtabpage.columns
•browser.newtabpage.rows

Thank You.
Will note that this was before the final release of 57+ and possible reason it will no longer take any more.
The tile part still works or I have the fix.
This may now have to be done with : https://www.howtogeek.com/334716/how-to-customize-firefoxs-user-interface-with-userchrome.css/ and https://www.userchrome.org/ and https://www.userchrome.org/what-is-userchrome-css.html and https://github.com/axydavid/FirefoxUI/blob/master/README.md https://github.com/wilfredwee/photon-australis There is a Reddit sub that is dedicated to this.
Not all code is in one place (yet) and will have to look for it.
Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.
Thanks for the reply, but I shouldn't have to trick up a theme to change one parameter. I should be able to change it and have it stay changed :-)
The two prefs only work for the classic design, but not for the Activity Stream design.
- browser.newtabpage.columns
- browser.newtabpage.rows
For the AS design you can set the number via this pref:
- browser.newtabpage.activity-stream.topSitesCount

I'm aware of that. I am running the classic design. I set this switch to false - browser.newtabpage.activity-stream.enabled . The default number of browser.newtabpage.activity-stream.topSitesCount is 24. I have both rows and columns set to 4. I should see 16 tiles/favorites when I open a new tab. I only see 12 - 4 columns and 3 rows. If after opening the browser anding settting row/columns to 4x4 again, I can see 16 tiles/favorites until I exit again.
Oh and BTW, I have 13 pinned favorites. Only 12 of which I see after stopping/starting the browser.

Thanks for the info. I'll wait patiently for the bug to be fixed.... :-)
