Hi. I can't get rid of opt.dealply.com. I'm pretty sure it's tracking my behavior, and it slows my system down. I can't uninstall it from Windows XP Professional, the dealply uninstall program doesn't work, and the Firefox do-not-track feature does no good. Can anyone help?

What is it doing?

When I move between Firefox windows, a small dialog appears in the lower left part of the screen that says, "opt.dealply.com." It slows the system, so it's doing something. But it doesn't offer any benefit or service, so it's doing what it does for someone other than me. I never signed up for it, and the so-called uninstall procedure doesn't work. So I presume it's spyware or malware. I need it uninstalled.

Dealply is considered adware ( here, here ). It is detected by Spybot S&D, Spyhunter, MSE, etc.

However, you should be able to simply uninstall it from control panel. Then you might have to reset some browser settings too (as it might hijack start page or similar).

I hope that you will pardon me since I am still learning the protocols here. I, too, had trouble with Dealply - in fact it nearly drove me nuts but I think I finally got rid of it. I hope that this might help you, too. The following is true for my system only and my trouble with Dealply which may or may not apply to you.

Dealply is hiding in plain sight in another extension, "Autolyrics" which is not listed as a Firefox add-on and seems to be associated with Winamp or iTunes. It can be reached at --

       Firefox Tools > Add-ons > Extensions > Autolyrics

When I disabled Autolyrics, Dealply also stopped (unfortunately I did not re-enable it to be sure). If you have Autolyrics or any other extension that doesn't seem right, disable it and see if affects Dealply. It was disabled and not uninstalled.

The AutoLyrics extension does not allow it's removal but examination of the add-on shows it contains an uninstaller and in fact shows up on Control Panel Programs and Features ready to be uninstalled, though I used a separate uninstaller. Dealply might also be spelled 'dealplie' and there may be an updater involved.

And, I fear that the thing just might be lurking in the background ready to pounce...

Hope this helps and good luck, medicinman
