Is Mozilla not allowing even reputable business entities to have unsigned addons now?

avast online security could not be verified for use in firefox and has been disabled
Can't believe a business like avast is not just automatically signed or at the very least the user given the option of allowing it. Is there nothing I can do other than hope that Avast will bow to Mozilla and get their addon signed?
This is a HUGE black mark for Mozilla Firefox. I love the browser but if trusted names like Avast have to jump through Mozilla's hoops and I end up not protected then I will have to find another browser.

You can use the Firefox 52.1.1 ESR version if you need to use unsigned extensions. You need to set xpinstall.signatures.required to false on the about:config page. See also:

Hmm, how do you know it's the genuine Avast extension if it has no verification?
What version of the extension do you have? You can view that from the Add-ons page. Either:
- Ctrl+Shift+a (Mac: Command+Shift+a)
- "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Extensions. Then find Avast Online Security on the right side (scroll down to the disabled extensions if needed) and click the More link. On the Avast forums, a user with version 12.0.211 has it enabled normally.
Another user reported on the Avast forum that after a recent major Windows 10 update, the extension simply does not appear in Firefox, but there's no explanation for it so far: https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=202131.0
well, got an update first thing this morning from avast that fixed the problem...YAY!!!
