Until recently I could reply/compose e-mails on my gmail account. Also the "Chat" window would be there.

I believe that after the 3.6.12 update unless I go to BASIC HTML view, I can't reply/compose e-mails. Nor does the CHAT option show.

I have tried two machines - each with FF (latest version) and both "fail". Using a machine with IE, I can reply/compose e-mails and I can see the CHAT list on the left of the screen.

I honestly hope it is not something I did, because it did work and I don't remember changing anything to stop it working.

Check the pref dom.storage.enabled on the about:config page and make sure that the pref is set to true.

To open the about:config page, type about:config in the location (address) bar and press the "Enter" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.

Cor-el,

Somewhere a village is missing their idiot.

I don't understand your line: Check the pref dom.storage.enabled on the about:config page .....

about:config

Um, that is confusing to me. Sorry.

Thank you for the advice. I understand how to change this, but I'm unsure whether I should do so because I don't know what it will do as a consequence. What does this do exactly? Could it potentially open someone up to some security threats or other problems? How come it's suddenly incorrect?

Any advice you could offer would be much appreciated.

  • "Clear the Cache": Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Offline Storage (Cache): "Clear Now"
  • "Remove the Cookies" from sites that cause problems: Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).

  • Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

See Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems and Troubleshoot issues with plugins like Flash or Java to fix common Firefox problems

If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.

  • Use "Disable all add-ons" on the Safe mode start window to disable all extensions.
  • Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

>In Firefox 4 Safe mode also disables plugins (Tools > Add-ons > Plugins) and hardware acceleration (Tools > Options > Advanced > General)

You can also try "Reset all user preferences to Firefox defaults" on the Safe mode start window.

I am suddenly having this problem with not being able to reply/forward to (certain Gmail conversations).

I have updated, Mac OS 10.5.8 with Firefox 3.6.10.

I have used Safari and the error is not reproducible. This issue is exclusively present to Gmail in FF.

I can confirm that FF config is presently dom.storage.enabled.

I have started FF in safemode, disabled, updated and enabled all plugins and add-ons, restarted FF and desktop many times, the issue is still present in FF.

Only some conversations cause this error. When I click on particular conversations reply/forward tab, the page freezes and the only way to temporarily resolve this, is to click the refresh icon as F5 will not work.

It does not freeze the whole FF browser, just the window with Gmail.

I need a fix as FF is my primary browser.

Thanks in advance! :-)

I have the same problem and still have it on 4 as well. I checked and my dom.storage is enabled. I even disabled it and then enabled it but not change. I try to compose mail and it just hangs on 'loading'. I cannot reply either . Any other suggestions? I have been using IE which I don't want to do. Thanks
