I just came across something I have never noticed before, and it might explain why sometimes I lose all my tabs/groups. I have Firefox set up just how I like it with pinned/locked/protected tabs and groups nicely (session 1). Some times I open a link in a new window (session 2). In session 2, none of the tab settings or groups are present, just the one tab with the web site.

If I close session 1 (the one with the settings), then close session 2, I lose all the tab and group settings!! I have it set to Open Windows & Tabs From Last Time; which it does as there are no settings in session 2. I tried changing it to Show My Home Page, and same result.

Is there something I have incorrectly set? I'd like Firefox to always open with the same tabs/groups. Its a real pain to lose everything and then try and remember what was lost.

Thanks for any help you can provide....

Chosen solution

All Firefox tabs and windows run in one session.

When you want to close Firefox, don't use the X in the upper-right corner of the browser window to Close Firefox window by window.

Use the Exit 'command' / button in the Menu Panel (3-bar button and at the bottom right corner) or use the Exit menu-item in the File menu. You can hit Alt to temporarily reveal the Menu Bar, and then hit F and then hit x to "Exit" Firefox by using the keyboard.
