My preferences should automatically update, but no updates in history and "about Firefox" says update available at website. Where? Won't automatically do it .

I use Safari on my iMac as primary browser but have installed Firefox as an alternate. My preferences in Firefox are set to automatically check for all updates, automatically install and warn me if any add-ons are disabled, but the update history is blank and when I click on "About Firefox" it does not check for updates and tell me to "install" or "apply update"; it simply states that updates are available at the Firefox website. But I can't find them. If updates are happening behind the scenes, then why did a site today warn me that I needed updates for Firefox? I can't figure out how to get updates.

Please manually download Firefox 20.0 as I can see that you are using version 5.0. Thank you!

Hi Kabuki, the manually option, as feer56 said above, is:

1. Download a copy of the latest firefox from http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html

2. Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean install.

3. Install the version that you have downloaded.

Do not select to remove your personal data, your profile data is stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder, so you won't lose your bookmarks or other personal data.
