I have ver. 60.2.1 Of Thunderbird - Windows 10 on 2 computers - On the Surface Pro 6, when attaching a windows Office 2010 created Word docs. or an excel file to an email from Windows File Explorer or from ta USB device, Thunderbird hangs (screen dims and cursor spins then nothing happens if I wait or close Windows File Explorer I get the dialog box >Do you want to restart the program or the second choice is wait<. I restart and start from over. This does not happen with a PDF. I have 2 computers & have transferred by a USB device a file constructed on the Surface Pro 6 which has the above issue to computer Surface Pro 3 and the file will attach. A file constructed on the Surface Pro 3 & transferred back to the Surface Pro 6 will not attach to an email. I can right click on the Windows doc. or excel created and residing on the Surface Pro 6 Desktop and chose (Send to > Mail Recipient) Thunderbird will open with the attachment included. But I am unable to attach a windows doc. from an email being created in Thunderbird. I have saved my Thunderbird email to a USB Drive as noted by the Thunderbird help article. Deleted Thunderbird from (programs & Features) and reinstalled a new download from the Thunderbird site, but the issue remains. I spent over an hour with the Best Buy help desk and they were not able to correct this issue Any Ideas would be appreciated. & and solution more so. J.F.S.

what anti virus? o you have the same issues if you use an image file. My guess is your anti virus is scanning office docs when they are opened for attachment and barfing on them. The riskiest files you can send as an attachment are Microsoft Office documents and most anti virus program give them very special attention because they are almost as contagious as typhoid Mary. The second riskiest is a PDF. Simply because people open them without putting their brain in gear.

Not really I gave up after messing with the problem and loosing most of my files. Just bought a new surface and started from scratch. Notified everyone I knew that my email had crashed so if they had something important, to send it again. I don't know who to blame me. Microsoft Update, or Thunderbird program (Corrupted). But after many hours I became a Quitter. John S.
