I would like to be able to remove Firefox's default search shortcut keywords for a site while still being able to use my own shortcut for that site. For example, if I would like to set wikipedia.org to only "@wi", it will automatically be set to "@wi, @wikipedia". I can remove wikipedia as a search engine, but then I'm not able to set my own keyword. Is there a way to do this? Thanks in advance.

Hi, I've noticed that only a small percentage of the sites I pin to the New Page tab manage to load their favicons. Even well known sites like Google or Mozilla.org fail to load the image. So I tried to customize them with the "Custom Image URL" option, but they are not appearing either. They load at first when I hit "preview", but they fail to load once I press "save".

It seems the code is not even loading the appropriate resource, which—I think—should be placed in a 'style' attribute with a 'background-image:url()' CSS property, with the image path placed between the parentheses. I also checked the thumbnails folder (AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\nt5cyawc.default-release\thumbnails), and I found the image is properly saved there, so it's the browser who's not loading them for some reason.

First, many of the URLs from my many stored bookmarks mysteriously disappeared. Second, I went to the Library Import and Backup and hit Restore choosing the most recent File. That led to "UNABLE TO PROCESS THE BACKUP FILE" but also erased ALL my bookmarks! Have tried to restore using some of the other 15 files but always get the same failure message. Please help. Thanks

What should I do if, when sending a message to VK, when I press Enter it goes to the next line??

When I hover over the 'Send' button, the sending settings come up, but Enter is still selected - send a message, and Shift+Enter - line break. WHAT TO DO??? Previously, when I pressed Enter, everything worked, but now it jumps to a new line. I am writing to you in support because in other browsers everything works as it should.

All of a sudden there is no option to open a jpg. attachment with photo in windows 10. It just stopped working all of a sudden. Checked setting and all you can do is save it.

Hello Dear Thunderbird and Lightning Community!

Microsoft is removing their local Outlook calendar from Windows OS at the end of this year, and have already started to remove the direct to accessing it through their regular updates.

As I am looking for a local, reliable Calendar that would be on top of that open source, I found out Lightning as a further add-on/extension to Thunderbird.

Given the general context I have mentioned in the beginning, this is an historical opportunity for the open source community to raise Lightning as a major alternative to Outlook Calendar (and not only Thunderbird globally).

Why not offering Ligthning also, as a pure STANDALONE, local (with online calendar for people who wish it), but at east as a local possibility without NEEDING to instal Thunderbird as a whole?

That would make a lot of sense.

I use gmail IMAP server with Thunderbird. I "save" attachments to my local drive and the "delete" them. The intention is to save space on the server. While Thunderbird shows the attachment has been removed (a line across the file name followed by the size "0 bytes"), on the sever (login directly with browser) I see two copies of the email, one with attachment and a second without it.

Same behavior if I try to "detach", instead of "save" followed by "delete".

It does not change even after I compact the folder (Inbox), nor if I restart Thunderbird.

I have tried to check/uncheck Message Storage>Server Settings> Clean up ("Expunge") Inbox on Exit. No difference.

Is there a way to accomplish what I need? It seems Thunderbird creates a copy of the original email with the attachment removed, but doe snot delete the original (except that locally it is invisible??) Thanks.

Recently I opened Thunderbird and it automatically added the following folders to my account:

All the generic yellow folders below the Deleted trash can icon suddenly appeared and they weren't there or weren't shown before. I right-mouse clicked on the account folder, went to Subscribe, unticked the folders that I don't want to subscribe to (all the yellow ones were there), restarted Thunderbird and they all still appeared and the boxes I unchecked, had just rechecked themselves.

I don't want them shown. Is there anyway to fix this?

I am using Multi-Account Containers, i have 3 pinned tabs all three are Gmail all three different. However when I restart my box and open Firefox again the pinned tabs show up BUT 3 new tabs appear asking me if i want to "Open this site in your assigned Container?". The pinned tabs are blank. If i click "Open in [container name] container" it will open in that new unpinned tab and not the pinned tab. This leads me to have to close my pinned tabs and re-pin each time. Please tell me I am doing something wrong and there is a way out of this madness!!!

When watching a video or a stream if i close the lid of my macbook the video is not paused and when i open it a few minutes/hours laters it will try to resume the video or stream but it's buggy since the macbook entered sleep mode when the lid is closed

How can i force Firefox to pause the video when the lid is closed ?

It's annoying to have a buggy video and sound when opening the macbook because i've closed it on an playing video or stream

On my new laptop I can not see the bookmark menu bar on the left side of the screen. Please help!!

Also, I have trued importing my bookmarks from an html file from my old laptop and that hasn't worked either.

Could we get a tool to lock folders in Thunderbird ? Or a warning before moving folders with drag and drop.

Pretty much what https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-us/thunderbird/addon/disable-draganddrop-tb-v2/ is probably doing - I'm just a bit worried to use addons that requires a permission: "Have full, unrestricted access to Thunderbird, and your computer"

I think this would be a welcome addition to many, especially those whom use IMAP like Gmail to use their mail account. If you accidentally drag a folder into another it can result a huge mess.

At the very least there should be an optional feature to get a warning message "Are you sure you wish to move this folder ..."

I'm looking for two features:

On minimizing window, thunderbird should minimize normally to taskbar as programs usually do. (This happens if the 'move it to tray' feature is disabled)

On closing the window, thunderbird should minimize as icon to the notification area tray. (This happens if the 'move it to tray' feature is enabled)

I think this should be an option integrated in thunderbird settings, if not to be the default behavior

i haven't found any extension to solve this yet and it is a little bit annoying when I use many windows and press alt-tab when thunderbird is minimized to the tray with x or - button when using the addon not to close thunderbird when pressing x, so it won't appear alongside other windows and i have to reclick the tray icon to show it again

I want to have both abilities to minimize to tray and minimize to TB at the same time

I believe that mail client has to be always running even if I press x button, unless I press Quit from inside the app

Are there any plans to make configuration of the setting "network.proxy.system_wpad" available via ADMX (grouppolicy under Windows)? We need to deploy this to 100 computers ans I still have no idea how.

Firefox version 132.0.1 Thunderbird version 128.4.0esr O/S: PCLinuxOS Debian Edition (Debian 12 Bookworm) with KDE 5

I am getting a "Click" sound effect when I click Menu Bar items in both Firefox and Thunderbird, Bookmarks in Firefox, Folders in Thunderbird and some other items in both. I can not find a way to turn it off. It does not happen in any other applications, including other web browsers that are forked from Firefox, so I think it is a Mozilla problem.

This is a relatively new installation that was set up copying settings from Firefox on Windows 10 using Firefox Sync. I did not copy anything from Windows Thunderbird because my email is IMAP which brings in everything from the server. I am not getting this clicking sound in Windows Firefox and Thunderbird.

I am GUESSING that the sound effect is due to an Accessibility setting that is buried somewhere, maybe in one of the text-based "about...." configuration files, but I don't know where to look. I have gone through the Linux KDE System Settings and the Settings in Firefox and Thunderbird several times trying to find it. I will note that I set up Firefox and Thunderbird in the same Linux distro on a laptop also using Firefox Sync and do not have this problem with the laptop. Can anyone tell me where to look to get rid of this irritating noise?

I've spent some time testing and trying to figure this out myself but without success. Epic fail some would say.

I'm running Thunderbird 128.4.3esr (64 bits) under Rocky Linux 8.10 (Green Obsidian) installed via Flatpak (Mozilla Thunderbird Flatpak en-US, thunderbird-flatpak - 1.0).

I have multiple IMAP accounts all set to empty trash on exit.

When I quit Thunderbird, I can see the actions it's performing in the bottom right among which I do read « Corbeille vidée » (trash cleared) for each account. But these trashes are not actually emptied.

I first thought it was not working at all but after more testing it seems like it does work but only for the trash that I've looked into before leaving the app (click on trash in the sidebar to display the message list it contains).

If I remember correctly it was working fine when installed from Rocky repo.

If anyone has any idea on the why and, even better, has a solution, that would be great.
