In e-edition of Detroit Free Press (http://digital.olivesoftware.com/Olive/ODE/DFREEP/) when trying to print out a puzzle, that feature does not work.

After double clicking to bring up the item, in the top tool bar is an icon representing the printer. Putting the pointer on that icon is supposed to bring up a box containing "print". It works in Chrome and IE but after the Firebox update on January 31, it no longer works in Firefox. During the update many options were listed including various print add-ons. Apparently I didn't choose one that I should have. Now that icon in that toolbar is no longer active.

You see, when I went to the Olive software trouble shooting site it stated that Firefox version 10 caused the problem because of the way Olive was using the Firefox software to generate its own sub menus. Apparently Yahoo! and Babylon have related methods and hence similar problems. So I have to wait until Olive is able to find a way to accommodate Firefox 10's changes. As I stated earlier I didn't do enough research before I used the Firefox trouble shooter and jumped to an invalid conclusion: thinking it just involved printing, when it really is the drop down menus in the screen box extracts. So Firefox admits it was caught off guard. Thanks for addressing the problem and forcing me to investigate more thoroughly. I've learned a lot about Firefox's help environment.

Try a right-click and use the Print menu item there.

Or you can use { Ctrl + P } to initiate printing, as with most programs.

I tried the suggestions, but they really apply to printer usage, which unfortunately my message indicated was the problem. However the problem is connected to how the derived puzzle box handles the reference to a printer. What is supposed to happen is that the puzzle is placed in a special location from where it will be printed. It still works fine in both Chrome and IE. So somehow it has to do with the manipulations e-edition does to accomplish this. The answer was helpful because it showed the different problem than one would assume it was.

Sorry, I was unable to get to that page to inspect, I don't have login credentials for that website.

I went to Olive support site looking for their trouble reports, and found the following comment: "Q. [Feb 2, 2012] I just upgraded to Firefox 10, and all the sudden some of the drop down menus on my Olive Digital Edition no longer work. Why is this?

A. Apparently Firefox 10 does not recognize the method that Olive uses to display the drop down menus (such as "Save" and "Share"). Olive is working on this and we hope to have a quick resolution."

So it is an incompatibility between Firefox 10 and Olive software. I'm sorry I made a wrong inference: thinking it was about only printing, just one of the drop down menu functions, when it really concerns the drop-down menus themselves.

My comments should be closed, because they are only about part of the problem. The quote above better expresses the real problem.

Are those drop-down menus at the top of the webpage, like within the top 2 inches?

If so, both the Yahoo! Toolbar extension and the Babylon extension have been reported to cause an issue like that. Disable or uninstall those add-ons if you have them.
