Firefox puts a black border or margin around my webpage I use for links. And, worst of all, it refuses to show Outlook/Hotmail's login page correctly: the banner page is black with items all incorrectly formatted, and if I click to login, i get a black page with nothing at all. I have disabled themes (just "basic"), made sure Firefox is not set for high-contrast, and that OS/X accessibility is not set to high contrast either. I've been using Firefox since it first became available (in the '90's?), and this has finally degraded it into unusability. Is there any explanation/solution to this problem?

Make sure you allow pages to choose their own colors:

  • Options/Preferences -> General: Fonts & Colors -> Colors: "Override the colors specified by the page with my selections above" set to Never.

After more scratching around, I found the answer was to REFRESH Firefox. I guess the stuff in my profile somehow introduced some kind of conflict. After the refresh, all works again. Thanks for your response!

You can try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox. Close and restart Firefox after modifying the setting for changes to take effect. You can check if there is an update for your graphics display driver and check for hardware acceleration-related issues
