Why do my animated themes stop animating and can only be re-activated with a system restore on my PC
Around 10th July 2019 my animated themes stopped working when I opened my browser. The image was there but it was not animating This was possibly after a Firefox update but I am not sure. When the themes were not animating the appearance of the theme page differed from when the themes were working.
Attachment 1 shows the theme page when the theme is enabled and working. Attachment 2 shows the theme page appearance when it is not working. Clicking on the 3 dots on the bottom right (when they are not working) takes you into the settings for the theme but there is no way of re-activating the animation.
I have found the only way of re-activating the animation in all of the animated themes I have is to do a system restore back to 10th July 2019. This is not practical to do every time I close down my computer and re-open it to find my animated theme not working.
If I do a system restore and get the animated themes working and log out of Firefox the themes will not be working when I log in again in the same working session on my PC.
Any help would be appreciated,

According to a discussion on Reddit, a bug fix in Firefox 68 to prevent flickering when switching windows somehow blocked the animation of theme images. This is scheduled to be fixed in Firefox 69.

Seems you'll have to live with non-animating themes for the next 5-6 weeks.

Hi,
I'm sorry to answer that now, but I just tested one of the extensions with an animated theme that you propose I don't have a problem.
I think you need to perform a safe mode repair https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode
if this does not work, check the settings or display the devtool console (F12) which should display additional information
Thank's
You can try to create a new Integer pref on the about:config page and set its value to 0.
- ui.prefersReducedMotion = 0
Close and restart Firefox after modifying the setting for the change to take effect You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I accept the risk!" to continue.
If this didn't help then reset the pref via the right-click context menu to the default value.

Thanks for your help but I have rolled back my version of Firefox to 66.0.5 which allows the animated themes to function. It does not make sense to me that Firefox 68 is a problem for me as all my add-ons and extensions are the same as used in Firefox 66.0.5
I managed to set Firefox 66.0.5 so it does not update automatically. I am reluctant to try the suggested solutions in case I can not replicate the process as the updates begin immediately I open the rolled back version . I now have the annoying problem of constant reminders that an update is available.
I have tried numerous solutions, mainly to do with regedit, suggested on the internet to solve this problem but without success to date.
I was wondering if one of the simplest solutions which does not involve trying to alter registry settings (which has not worked for me) might be to just go to -C: - Program Files - Mozilla Firefox - and then just delete - "updater.exe, updater.ini, update-settings.ini",
I am not quite sure about this as I am not sure if it might have unforseen consequences. What do you think?
There is another option for removing the update reminders that I would prefer to pursue by someone called 'techtiptricks' (see attachment) but it does not explain where the 2 registry scripts sitting on the desktop came from (the link here does not work). Do you have any idea how to obtain these as this method seems more reversible than the one above,
With thanks, Sepps
I just notice that the pref that I wanted you to modify got missing in my above reply:
- ui.prefersReducedMotion = 0
I searched for " ui.prefersReducedMotion" and did not find it.

Thanks for your help. I will continue to use version 66.0.5 with the updates and update reminders disabled until version 69 is available.
deez putrz iz HARD! ❣️
It's now been two months since Firefox "broke" the animated themes and it is still not working. I've tried all the supposed "fixes" like safe mode and resetting Firefox and still nothing.
I'm wondering is this not a problem anyone at Firefox is working on or is there a fix I'm missing out on.
Okay. I just updated my Firefox to 69.0 and now the animated themes are animating.
Soooooo...problem solved?
Astonishingly phenomenal❣️ After so many years using ANIMATED AlienFoxware Lob, the recent weeks without animation merely focused us on how mysterious the internet operates. It is with exceeding joy that we are back in biznez
