Sent messages stop appearing in Sent folder after a while

more options

My colleague and I access the same IMAP account on different Mac laptops, both using Thunderbird (currently 60.7.0). We each encounter from time to time a problem whereby emails we have sent (and which appear in the Sent folder of the account as viewed via a web interface) do not show up in the Sent folders on our PCs. Sometimes the Sent emails will show on one PC but not on the other PC. In all cases, a tick appears next to the Sent folder in the list of subscribed folders. We can always work around this problem by deleting the whole account and recreating it. When we do this, the Sent emails reappear correctly, and Thunderbird generally works OK for a few weeks, with Sent emails showing correctly. Then the problem reoccurs. I would be grateful for any advice on how to troubleshoot this problem further — even more grateful if anyone could help me fix it permanently!

IMAP sync happens every 10 minutes by default.

When you initially setup the account on both system it probably started that counter at the same time. It seems possible as time goes on and you restart/close etc. it's not sync'ed at the same time so you don't see the exact same content on both systems.

You can lower this to 1 minute but on large inboxes this will take lots of resources and is generally not nice to your provider's reources either.

Hi Fabian, Thanks for responding. In my case, the two PCs I have mentioned are "out of sync" by a lot more than ten minutes. Thunderbird on one PC has not updated its Sent folder for at least 5 days now, while the same release of Thunderbird on the other PC (which is using the same operating system release as the first PC) appears to be working fine for the same email account.
