Is it possible to toggle Thunderbird's offline mode from the command line? (on linux.)

The idea is to execute such command when certain connection/disconnection events happen (e.g. triggered by NetworkManager).

If internet connectivity is lost then Thunderbird should automatically into offline mode.

Offline mode can be triggered in Thunderbird whilst it is running and in online mode via clicking on the small two blue screen icon located bottom left in Status bar. When in offline mode it will become a two black screen icon.

clicking on the two black screen icon will go back to online mode.

Command line to start in offline mode etc:

Offline settings: 'Edit' > 'Preferences' > 'Advanced' > 'Network & Disc Space' tab

  • click on 'Offline' button
  • make choices
  • click on all 'OK's.

Yes, but is there a way to toggle Thunderbird's offline mode from the command line?

I want to control it's offline/online state from another program.

There is a command line switch, -offline, but it is meant for starting Thunderbird. I have no tested if it does anything if Thunderbird is already running and there is nothing for the reverse at all that I can see. https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Mozilla/Command_Line_Options
