My Aetna insurance claim page displays correctly with IE, but in Firefox the dollar sign '$' displays as the old British pound symbol (a script 'L' with a crossbar)

In all recent versions of Firefox, the Aetna page which shows the summary list of all my medical insurance claims will display correctly with the US dollar symbol, but when I drill down to the detail level page on a specific claim, the numerics are right, but the leading symbol is a '₤' not a '$'.

In IE, I get the correct US dollar sign on the detail page (as well as the summary list page)

Tried it, but no change. Also tried deleting all cookies (in case I missed something) and still get the wrong symbol. Could it be a font issue?

It sounds more to me that the website thinks that you are in the UK and not in the USA.

Sometimes such data is stored in a cookie and resetting that cookie may correct it, but you may also need to check the setting in that website to be sure that you aren't redirected to another localized version.

Is only that currency symbol changed or do you get the prices in British pounds as well?

It's only one webpage within the Aetna website (other pages display the '$' OK). I would buy the 'it thinks I'm in the UK' idea, but the actual numerals of the amounts are correct for US dollars, not pounds, and my Aetna policy is (I believe) US only. Plus Internet Explorer gets it right  :-(

I reported this phenomena to Aetna and they said 'It looks good at our end', which makes sense if IE displays it OK.

I'm running the latest release of Firefox 6, but it did this under 5 as well.

AHA! Under Options>Content, there is a language button. Somehow all three of my machines had been set to English - UK ! I set them back to English - US and the problem was solved! Why this only affected one page on the Aetna site and not any other page that I've seen containing a dollar sign, I have no idea.
