Why doesnt my browser open webpages?
Mozilla Firefox just ran some updates on my computer. Now, it will not go to web pages, not even my home page. The browsers opens just fine but it keeps trying to connect but never does. In addition, my old Internet Explorer will not go to web pages either. All the other computers in this house (and even my tablet which is my only means of internet access at this point) open web pages no problem. My computer also will run programs like Skype and iTunes which need an internet connection just fine. Web pages? Not so much. Is it something with the browser or something with my computer?
Thank you all!

Hi, It seems that any Firewall or Antivirus blocked the browsers from working. For more information to solve this problem, see Firefox and other browsers can't load websites and Configure firewalls so that Firefox can access the Internet Regards
Type about:preferences in the address bar and press Enter.
Select Advanced > Network. Look for Configure How Firefox Connects and press the Settings button. Check the settings.
Some problems occurs when your Internet security program was set to trust the previous version of Firefox, but no longer recognizes your updated version as trusted. Now how to fix the problem: To allow Firefox to connect to the Internet again;
- Make sure your Internet security software is up-to-date (i.e. you are running the latest version).
- Remove Firefox from your program's list of trusted or recognized programs. For detailed instructions, see
Configure firewalls so that Firefox can access the Internet. {web link}
Thank you so much! This was super helpful... but I've run into a few snags. 1) somehow the 'Configure Proxies to Access the Internet' is set at 'No proxy' and will not switch to anything else 2) my firewall is Norton 360 and I can't get the Windows Firewall working
... I have issues
Do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before (re)installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.
- Download the full Firefox installer and save the file to the desktop
https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
If possible uninstall your current Firefox version to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.
- Do NOT remove "personal data" when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because this will remove all profile folders and you lose personal data like bookmarks and passwords including data in profiles created by other Firefox versions.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
- (32 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
- (64 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\"
- It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
- http://kb.mozillazine.org/Uninstalling_Firefox
Your bookmarks and other personal data are stored in the Firefox profile folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure NOT to remove personal data when you uninstall Firefox as that will remove all Firefox profile folders and you lose your personal data.
If you keep having problems then also create a new profile.
Norton has a built in firewall. Open the Norton main program. Under Security, press Manage Firewall. A new window will open. Select the tab; Program Rules. This will show you a list of all programs that the firewall has rules for. Look thru the whole list, and remove ALL entries for Mozilla and Firefox. Then close the Norton windows.
Thank you so much everyone! I think this will work. Now I just have to deal with Norton crashing when I try to access Program Files. If anything comes up once I figure out how to access Program Files, I'll definitely come back!!!
