Hello
I have been using Thunderbird as my email service and not had this before. Yesterday, I had to change my password for emails with BT. I changed it on Thunderbird too but now I am receiving emails OK on Thunderbird it is refusing to send any for me and shows the above message. I can send OK from my web based BT email but prefer Thunderbird.
I haven't a clue what I need to do to solve this.
Can you please help? Please tell me is very simple steps I'm not very computer savvy.
Thank you

re :Yesterday, I had to change my password for emails with BT. I changed it on Thunderbird too
When you changed it in Thunderbird, you would have need to chnage both the incoming and outgoing.
Settings > Privacy and Security Scroll to Passwords section click on 'Saved Passwords' clickon 'Show Passwords
POP using - mailbox://mail.btinternet.com (mailbox://mail.btinternet.com) IMAP using - imap://mail.btinternet.com (imap://mail.btinternet.com) Outgoing SMTP - smtp://mail.btinternet.com (smtp://mail.btinternet.com)
So for the relavant pop or imap and smtp lines - right click on line and select 'Edit Password'
Now it seems the password for incoming was set up correctly but maybe the smtp line was not...so right click on smtp line and select 'Edit Password' Completely clear contents of the password and then carefully type in exactly the same password you have entered in the incoming line - the new password you created in BT. Click on 'Close' Then Exit Thunderbird and wait a few moments for background files to get updated and then restart Thunderbird.

BT SMTP server settings are:
- Description - bt email address
- Server name: mail.btinternet.com
- Port: 465
- Connection SEcurity: SSL/TLS
- Authentication method: Normal Pasword
- User name: full bt email address

Thank you for your help the step by step really helped.
The secret seemed to be in clicking on the 'show passwords' step which I'd been reluctant to do on my own as it's counter intuitive to show them.
